Ottoman Red Mosque and Meis Archaeological Museum

Built in 1755, it is the most prominent structure remaining from the Ottoman period on the island. With its red minaret visible from almost every part of the island, this mosque holds the distinction of being the only mosque on Meis.

Current Status: The mosque is no longer open for worship. It is now used as an Ethnography Museum (Archaeological Museum). In this way, it is preserved as both an architectural and cultural heritage site.

Throughout its history, Meis Island has been under the control of different cultures and powers such as the Knights of St. John, Egypt, the Kingdom of Naples, and the Ottoman Empire.

The mosque is one of the most important structures reflecting the traces of the Ottoman period within this diverse cultural history.

For tourists visiting Meis Island, the mosque is both a popular photography spot and a frequently visited site to explore the museum.
