Lycian Tombs

The Lycian tomb located at the entrance of the harbor, beneath Castello Rosso, dates back to the 4th century BC. This historical structure, which has survived for centuries, is remarkably well preserved.

One of the typical features of the Lycian tomb is its single façade. The tomb also resembles the roofs and columns of Greek Doric temples. In some sources, a number of these tombs are described as Doric in style.

There is only one Lycian rock tomb on the island. For this reason, Meis holds the distinction of having the only rock tomb in Europe. As you walk along the coastline from the harbor toward the Knights’ Castle, you will notice it among the rocks.
